Diagnostic Codes

ICD coding is International Classification of Diseases. This system gives a numeric or alpha-numeric “code” to all diseases or injuries. The current system used for diagnosis coding in the in the United States is the International Classification of Diseases 9th Revision which was adopted in 1979. This version is becoming obsolete as it is does not meet the current and future demands of health care data needs. Therefore there will be a change to adopt and use ICD-10. However this 10th revision is not scheduled for use until October 1, 2015.

AcuCode Digital contains diagnosis specific to the acupuncture profession, with an emphasis on codes specific to pain, pain management and insurance reimbursement. However it is not limited to only those codes. The coding can be searched by body region, keyword or diagnosis code. Each code is mapped with both ICD9 and ICD10 classifications. Keep in mind there are often 3-10 codes in ICD10 for one code in ICD9 due the increased specificity of the ICD10 revision.

Expert Tip: As an added benefit, in the Document Library there are also specific insurance company guidelines which contain diagnosis specifics for acupuncture reimbursement according to each insurance carrier.
